Ana Martina (she/ella/they/elle) is a chilenga community organizer and facilitator. Committed to principles and practice of Solidarity Economy, her organizing and early work couple decades ago was linked to the Indymedia movement in Mexico. She documented and actively supported the Zapatista movement in solidarity with other indigenous and grassroots organizing including documentation of Free Trade Agreement’s environmental impacts and displacement of communities in Mexico and Central America. In the U.S. she served as the Technical Director of the Prometheus Radio Project in the United States, providing technical assistance to dozen of organizations to obtain FM low-power transmission licenses around the country including WPPM PhillyCAM Radio.
She co-organized the first Spanish Speaker track in the Allied Media Conference, bringing more than a dozen media makers and organizers to Detroit for many years. She participated as a member of the Radicante Media Collective exploring spaces to talk about digital security among organizer communities in Philadelphia. From 2018 – 2022 she participated as an organizer member of the Philadelphia-based feminist collective Comadre Luna where she produced media, centering conversations around gender justice, gentrification in Philadelphia, and anti-Blackness among Latinex immigrant communities. Ana Martina co funded Colmenar Cooperative Consulting, providing technical assistance and cooperative development bilingual services.
During her 5 years as Membership Director at the US Federation of Worker Cooperatives Ana Martina developed an in-depth understanding of the landscape of workplace democracy across the U.S. She is dedicated to promoting and advising others on best practices for democratic governance and organizational accountability. She served as the USFWC’s Technical Assistance Project Manager and coordinated the Movimiento para Inmigrantes en Cooperativas, (Immigrant Movement in Cooperatives), a support network for immigrant worker-owners, and co-facilitated the Racial and Economic Justice Council as part of this role.
She is very involved in building networks among international worker cooperative movements. Ana Martina served on the board of CICOPA Americas, the international body representing cooperatives worldwide.
Ana Martina is a Certified Conflict Mediator from the SEEDS Community Resolution Center. She was part of the 2021-2022 cohort of the AORTA Headwaters Facilitation Apprenticeship. She graduated from the Next Economy MBA cohort VII by LIFT Economy. She currently resides in Philadelphia, where she has taken root with her little family of radicants.
